Vegastar joins Vietnam-Italy workshop on SAR technology and future collaboration
Hanoi, Vietnam – June 6, 2023 – As part of the 50th-anniversary celebrations marking diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Italy, the “Vietnam-Italy Cooperation in SAR Technology and Applications” workshop was held in Hanoi on June 6. The event, which gathered key ministries, agencies, and businesses, provided a platform for extensive discussions on SAR technology. Vegastar Group had the honor of participating, sharing insights and discussing the promising future of SAR applications.
The workshop “Vietnam-Italy cooperation in SAR technology and applications” was co-organized by the Vietnam National Space Center (VNSC) under Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology and the Italian Aerospace Technology Association.
Among the prominent attendees were Associate Professor Dr. Pham Anh Tuan, General Director of VNSC, Italian Ambassador to Vietnam Antonio Alessandro, Ms. Cristina Leone, President of the Italian National Aerospace Technology Association, Mrs. Le Thanh Huong, President of Vegastar Group, and leading scientists, researchers, and representatives from academia and industry.
The workshop attracted 100 participants, including 60 in-person attendees from various ministries and organizations such as the Ministry of Science and Technology, the National Remote Sensing Department, and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. Additionally, representatives from universities such as Hanoi University of Science and Technology and the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology were present, while 40 participants joined online from locations such as Ho Chi Minh City, Can Tho, and An Giang.
In his remarks, Associate Professor Dr. Pham Anh Tuan emphasized the importance of space science and technology, noting that the Vietnamese government approved a strategy for the development and application of space technology to 2030. This strategy aims to enhance resource management and environmental monitoring through the use of space technology, particularly to mitigate the impacts of natural disasters. He also highlighted the vital role of international cooperation in successfully implementing this strategy.
The program fostered discussions on the potential applications of SAR technology, particularly in crucial areas like climate change monitoring, water resource management, and agricultural data collection. This collaboration is expected to significantly contribute to Vietnam’s space technology development and further strengthen the strategic partnership between Vietnam and Italy.
During the workshop, Mrs. Le Thanh Huong shared insights into the current state of SAR research and application in Vietnam, highlighting Vegastar Group’s expertise and experience in SAR projects and discussing plans for future developments.
It was announced that in 2024, VNSC will launch LOTUSat-1, Vietnam’s first SAR satellite. LOTUSat-1 will have the capability to capture high-resolution Earth images under all weather conditions, both day and night. The data obtained will provide timely, accurate information to help experts respond to natural disasters, manage resources, and monitor environmental changes, ultimately supporting Vietnam’s socio-economic development.
This workshop, organized by the Vietnam Space Center and the Italian Aerospace Technology Association, underlines the growing collaboration between the two nations in the aerospace sector and further strengthens their strategic relationship./.
