Seminar on “Introducing space technology achievements with potential applications in Hung Yen province”
Hung Yen, Vietnam – July 25, 2023 – The Department of Science and Technology organized a seminar titled “Introducing Space Technology Achievements with Potential Applications in Hưng Yên Province for Socio-Economic Development and Environmental Protection” at the Pho Hien hotel.
The seminar was held as part of the province’s strategic plan to effectively implement the “Strategy for Development and Application of Space Science and Technology to 2030”, approved by the People’s Committee of Hưng Yên Province in Plan No. 128/KH-UBND on August 11, 2021, following Decision No. 169/QĐ-TTg by the Prime Minister on February 4, 2021.
The seminar was chaired by Mr. Tran Tung Chuan, Director of the Hưng Yên Department of Science and Technology; along with the participation of Mr. Nguyen Xuan Hai, Deputy Director of the Department; Mr. Do Dinh Quang, Deputy Director of the Department of Information and Communications; Mr. Vu Anh Tuan, Deputy General Director of the Vietnam National Space Center (VNSC); Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Quang, Director of Vega Space and Geospatial Academy (VSGA, a subsidiary of VEGASTAR GROUP), and representatives from the Space Technology Institute and Hanoi University of Science and Technology.
The seminar also attracted representatives from the Hưng Yên provincial police, military command, financial department, transport department, natural resources and environment department, agriculture and rural development, and local businesses, as well as representatives from district-level economic departments across the province.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Tran Tung Chuan highlighted the importance of space technology as a high-tech field integrating various scientific and technological disciplines to create and utilize tools such as satellites, spacecraft, launch vehicles, and ground stations for the benefit of humanity. He emphasized the widespread and practical applications of space technology in socio-economic development, culture, education, healthcare, security, and national defense across the globe. Mr. Chuan specifically mentioned the significant role of space technology in disaster prevention and mitigation, climate change adaptation, natural resource management, agricultural development, telecommunications infrastructure, satellite positioning, and other peaceful and commercial applications.
The discussion included expert insights into the practical application of space technology and GIS in various aspects of social and economic life in Vietnam, particularly in Hưng Yên Province. Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Quang, Director of VSGA, shared his insights on “Remote Sensing and GIS Technology Applications for Spatial Management and Smart City Development in Hưng Yên Province.”
This solution from VSGA aims to accelerate Hưng Yên’s digital transformation and smart city development. It focuses on building, integrating, and sharing standardized data to provide accurate, timely, and comprehensive information. This will support efficient management, reporting, and decision-making for city leaders while offering fast, accurate data to businesses and citizens, reducing costs and avoiding duplicate investments.
The seminar concluded with Mr. Nguyen Xuan Hai, Deputy Director of the Department of Science and Technology of Hưng Yên province, reaffirming the crucial role and initial achievements of applying space technology in socio-economic development. He emphasized the importance of space technology as a cutting-edge field and a driver of national progress.
Mr. Hai affirmed that Hưng Yên province will focus on maintaining research and development in space technology for national security and defense, as well as for social applications and natural resource management. He stressed the long-term nature of space technology development and application, ensuring inheritance and technology transfer. He also highlighted the continued investment in applying space technology in specific sectors like security, national defense, natural resources and environment, agriculture and rural development, economy, culture, education, and healthcare. Mr. Hai emphasized the integration of space technology applications into Hưng Yên’s education system to ensure sustainable socio-economic development in the future./.
